Recording

Starting in January the company will begin marketing into two endeavors. The first will be packages for live sound, live recording, and live videography aimed at providing services for college music majors who may need recordings or live sound reinforcement. This will also be marketed to school systems who may want their live concerts recorded. The second endeavor get into the world of artist promotion. Two artists have joined with GvG productions to help book and produce concerts in the Kalamazoo area. I am very excited about both these projects as I continue to shape the direction this company is going. Look for new ads to be posted in January!

New Stock Music

I have been spending the past couple of days building my stock music library. I have put two new stock recordings on the homepage in two very different styles. The first is a harder rock concept that I had been toying with over the past few months and I finally just laid it down and let it evolve. I suppose there are some influences from Rush in there with the whole-tone line and the meter changes, but I honestly hear the Switchfoot influence in it more. I also have to admit that at least one line in there was strongly influenced by The Red Hot Chili Peppers (I will let you guess which one!). The second tune on there is a much more minimalist ambience. It feels wintery to me... I guess the first snow of the season brought it out. I find it beautiful and relaxing... in my mind it goes behind something wintery and white. Gungor really played a big part in my thinking about this ambience concept. Overall I think Logic and my various instruments worked well together. Let me know what you think!

New Live Recording

Just finished a live recording of WMU Master's Candidate Josh Burel's Graduate Recital. A tremendous performance that combined original compositions with virtuosic violin playing. We got some really solid sounds using the combination of Focusrite Preamps and some serious Royer and Neumann Tube Condenser mics. Have a listen in the media player!

New Album Release

Brian Hemstock, the vocalist for the Glenn Miller Orchestra, has just released a solo album engineered by GvG Productions. The album, entitled "Handful of Stars", features GvG as the mixing engineer after the tracking was done in the Chicago area by Andy Lindberg (may he rest in peace), and Nate Giller Productions. The Album was mastered by Glenn Brown. Brian Hemstock is a TREMENDOUS vocalist and this album is a very exciting musical work in the vein of Sinatra and Martin. The opening track "Come Fly With Me" is featured on the GvG Productions homepage!

Composition Retreat

So I am currently somewhere outside of Paw Paw Michigan in a cabin on a lake by myself. It is very beautiful and I am very blessed to be here. I am writing music for a composing commission from Western Michigan University. The commission calls for restful music for the WMU Symphonic Band. I was able to "borrow" some internet from the neighbors, but I should probably get back to work. Once I know the premiere date for this piece, I will post it!

Video

Wow! We had two last-minute video gigs in a row this week! The Western Michigan University AAUP forum was taped last Thursday, and the WMUsic showcase was taped on Sunday afternoon. A big thanks to Drew Raklovits and Mike Steinke for their hard work in the video area. Also a big thanks to John Campos and Keith Roelfsema for helping multitrack the very complex audio for the showcase! Both these clients will be well pleased with the results. Never forget to keep us in mind for video as well! Whether it's live concerts or professional music videos, GvG's got ya!
